News Letter
A while back we started to introduce some of our board members to you. In this newsletter I am pleased to introduce our Secretary, Brian Juneau. Brian Juneau born 1948. Attended Plattsburgh State University SUNY and Miami-Dade County, Fl. Community College and graduated with a fire science Degree. Brian received his call to duty on April 1, 1968 serving in the US Army, with the First Engineer Combat Battalion, in Vietnam for 15 months. He returned to the world and spent some time finding himself. Eventually Brian married his sweetheart and in his words “his much better half” Helene. Not so many years later, tired of the cold winter weather, they packed up two cats and a dog and moved to Miami, Florida using the funds from a cashed in life insurance policy that the NVA didn't punch the ticket on. The employment opportunities were scarce and cash was dwindling, until a friend mentioned that the Fire dept was hiring. Brian took the exam and with his 5 veterans points added in, scored in the top 5 out of 2,500 applicants. He then spent the next 27-1/2 years moving up thru the ranks including 16 years as a Rescue Captain, running over 30,000 alarms. Brian’s honors for his service to the Fire Department include Miami-Dade County Fire department employee of the month and Miami-Dade county Fire Department Humanitarian of the Year. Brian retired from this challenging career in 2003. He and Helene then moved to the mountains where Brian continues to pursue his passion for beating the stock market as a day trader and swing trader. Brian has also served on the board of the Bent Tree Parcel 1A homeowners association for several years as well as a director on the Bent Tree homeowners association, an organization of over 1600 homeowners. Says Brian: “One of my greatest honors is being asked and chosen to serve as Secretary of the First Engineer Combat Battalion.” We extend a very special welcome to our newest member: Fred Zingsheim of Theresa, WI If we have missed anyone please let us know and we will make sure to include you in the next newsletter. On a sad note, we have lost not only several members serving in Iraq, but one of our own veteran members, John Kingsbury. John served his country proudly during Vietnam. Our thoughts go out to his wife Peggy and his family. A friend informed us of a great website to visit. WWW.Anysoldier.com . At this site you are able to adopt a soldier to correspond with or send a care package to. Although we are not very familiar with this site, we thought it might be a great idea to look into. If you do not have Internet access, but are interested, please send your requests/correspondence to: Any Soldier Inc. P.O. Box 29 Hoagland, IN 46745-0029 (Please do not send any packages to this address) It was mentioned at our annual meeting that many of you would like to receive the newsletter and/or roster via e-mail. If you would prefer to receive these by e-mail please let Kim know. Kim Thompson Phone 860-447-0676, kim@diehardengineer.com.
